Father We Thank Thee
by Ralph Waldo Emerson
For flowers that bloom about our feet,
Father, we thank Thee.
For tender grass so fresh, so sweet,
Father, we thank Thee.
For the song of bird and hum of bee,
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee.
For blue of stream and blue of sky,
Father, we thank Thee.
For pleasant shade of branches high,
Father, we thank Thee.
For fragrant air and cooling breeze,
For beauty of the blooming trees,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee.
For this new morning with its light,
Father, we thank Thee.
For rest and shelter of the night,
Father, we thank Thee
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee.
And for a beautiful, wonderful, lovely Thanksgiving day spent with family that pushed away the stresses in our lives for a while helping us focus on what is really important,
Father in heaven, we thank thee.

Funny side note on this poem/prayer. G has trouble saying her "th"'s, which I forgot and I asked her to help me read it a couple months ago thinking she could say the "Father we thank thee" line. It was so hard for her! But rather than just blowing it off because she couldn't do it, she will ask us for help every once in a while and we have heard her practicing it on her own too! Now she can say it - not smoothly, but she can get it out! =)
A very apt poem and sentiment for the season. Yes, Father, we thank thee.
